Fire TV App Closing Issue: How to Disable the ‘Still Watching’ Feature

Due to recent Fire TV updates, if you are using a Fire TV device, please make sure to disable the following setting if available on your Fire TV device. Failing to disable this setting will result in any app, including ours, automatically exiting after a few hours of usage:

Setting -> Preferences -> Data Usage Monitoring -> Still Watching, set this to OFF.

FireTV devices now include a feature that displays a “Still Watching?” message on the screen if the remote control has been inactive for the last 4 hours. Clearly, this is not ideal for digital signage but luckily the feature is simple to disable.

  1. From the home screen go to settings and click on Preferences.
  2. Scroll down to Data Usage Monitoring and click on it.
  3. If you have the latest software running on your FireTV device you will see the options below which includes the “Still Watching” setting. If “Still Watching” is absent you do not need to perform any further steps.
  4. Scroll down to Still Watching
  5. Simply click to disable the setting.

That’s it. Your FireTV will now happily run without interruption.
